This blog is a delayed response to 8 November 2016, when for reasons unfathomable, the nation elected an autocrat wannabe. On 20 January 2017, Donald Trump swore to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” and to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” He also neglected to fully divest from his many businesses as surely the Constitution’s Emoluments clause requires. Instead of faithfully executing his Presidential duties, he has ignored and/or actively subverted them. He’s attacked First Amendment freedoms: religious freedom and freedom of the press. He’s undermined the various intelligence agencies, refusing to fully embrace their assessment that Russia attacked the election. He’s attacked the co-equal branches of government: the Judicial branch and the Legislative branch. He grudgingly signed a near-unanimous bill regarding Russian sanctions, but has since refused to implement it, snubbing his nose at the Legislative branch. Why is the Legislative branch allowing this? Why is the Legislative branch ceding power to him? More specifically, why are Republican legislators refusing to fulfill the oath they swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic?” Why won’t they do their job!? Why are they allowing him to ruin our country’s standing in the world? What is their problem?!
The “Anti-Constitutional-Bullying PSA” video, inspired by the “Bully Jr.” anti-bullying YouTube video, is a plea to Republican legislators to please find the courage to live up to the oath you swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
